Specimen Requirements

Fresh specimen required

 

(A) Specimen Type: Bone marrow 
      Container/Tube: Green Top (Sodium Heparin)
      Volume: 1-2mL

 

(B) Specimen Type: Peripheral Blood
      Container/Tube: Green Top (Sodium Heparin)
      Volume: 4-8mL, preferably presence of >5% blasts

 

(C) Specimen Type: Lymph Node / Solid Tumour /Bone core
      Container: Sterile tube with 3ml collection media.
(Prearrange with Cytogenetics Laboratory for collection media)

 

(D)  Specimen Type: Effusions (CSF, Pleural Effusion etc)
      Container: Sterile universal container
      Volume: 3-6mL,preferably presence of >10% cells


Additional Collection Instructions: All specimens should be shipped to the lab within 12-24 hours of collection. Specimen received after 48 hours of collection will nonetheless be processed but results may be compromised. For overseas specimens, avoid shipping on Friday or eve of public holidays.

Useful For

Detection of chromosomal abnormalities in Multiple Myeloma (MM) for t(4;14), t(11;14), t(14;16), deletion and duplication of 1p/1q, deletion of LSI D13S319, monosomy 13 and deletion of LSI TP53.  Refer to Table 2 .
