Specimen Requirements

Interphase FISH for any 3 probes WITHOUT chromosome karyotyping test request. Refer to test code CYG for specimen requirements. Refer to Table 1 for list of available probes.

Submit one of the following:

Fresh specimen required

For (A) and (B):

(A) Specimen Type: Bone Marrow 
      Volume: 1.0 - 2.0 mL
      Storage/transport requirement: Ambient

(B) Specimen Type: Peripheral Blood
      Volume: 4.0 - 8.0 mL, preferably presence of > 5% blasts
      Storage/transport requirement: Ambient

For (C):

Preferred:

Sterile tube with 3.0 mL collection media

(C) Specimen Type: Lymph Node / Solid Tumour / Bone core
      Storage/transport requirements:  Ambient                                                                         (Prearrange with Cytogenetics Laboratory for collection media).

For (D):

Preferred:

Sterile Universal Container

(D)  Specimen Type: Effusions (CSF, Pleural Effusion etc)
       Volume: 3.0 - 6.0mL,preferably presence of > 10% cells
       Storage/transport requirement: Ambient
