Specimen Requirements
Submit only one of the following
Specimen Type: Varied sites. Specify the source of specimen.
Container/Tube: eSwab, M40 transystem Amies agar transport media (for non-NUH patients)
Volume: 1 swab
Collection Instructions: Collect specimen with sterile swab with transport medium.
– The representative specimen is at the advancing margin of the wound.
– Open the surface lesion and sample the advancing edge of the lesion firmly.
– Closed lesions should be aspirated with a syringe.

Samples in Formalin, Universal Transport Medium (UTM), boric acid bottle, non-sterile container, dry swab.

For specimens from deep sites or abscesses, it is strongly recommend to order MXB (Culture and Sensitivity, Aerobic and Anaerobic).
