Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Specimen in appropriate transport medium. Specify sample source.
Container/Tube: Sterile screw-capped container, eSwab, M40 transystem Amies agar transport media (for non-NUH patients), media plates for eye scraping (collect from NUH Microbiology Laboratory).

Unacceptable Condition

Anaerobic culture not recommended for catheter tips, semen, vaginal or vulvar secretions swabs, urethral swabs, penile swabs, nail, respiratory tract specimens, perineal swab, rectal swab.

 

Foley catheter, urinary catheters, ETT tips are not recommended for culture.

 

Samples in Formalin, Universal Transport Medium (UTM), boric acid bottle, non-sterile container, dry swab.

Special Instruction

Do not use this test code for respiratory specimens, urine, stool, blood.
