Specimen Requirements

Submit only one of the following

 

Specimen Type: Respiratory aspirates, fresh tissues, biopsies and body fluids
Container/Tube: Sterile, screw-capped container
Volume: 5.0mL (fluids, aspirates); 5.0g (tissues)
Minimum Volume: 1.0mL (fluids, aspirates); 2.0g (tissues)
Collection Instructions: Collect aseptically into a sterile container.

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood or bone marrow
Container/Tube: EDTA tube, lavender top
Volume: 3.0mL
Minimum Volume: 1.0mL
 

Specimen Type: CSF and Stool specimens – consult with NUH Microbiologist before sending.

Sample Stability

Preferred temperatures for storage prior to and during shipping to NUH 

 

Specimen Type:  All types
Ambient:  Submit to lab as soon as possible
Refrigerate:  24 hours
Frozen:  Do not freeze sample

 

Reference Interval

Negative for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex.

 

Call back values: Requesting clinician/ location will be informed of positive result.

Unacceptable Condition

1) Hard bone specimen
2) Swab specimens- These have low amounts of material
3) For NUH patients with previously reported positive MTMOL results sent within 2 weeks, sample will be rejected.
