Reference Interval
Interpretation of urine hCG result should take into consideration potential false negatives in:
(a) patients > 5 weeks or < 12 days pregnant
(b) ectopic and molar pregnancy
(c) diluted urine
And false positives in:
(d) urinary tract infection and/or haematuria
(e) patients treated with antibody therapy
(f) nephrotic syndrome
(g) urine admixed with cleaning solutions/detergents
In these cases, a serum beta-HCG is recommended.
