For swab collection, a special collection media (red top) is needed. Please dispatch a porter to the Molecular Diagnosis Centre with the following instruction: "Collect 1× swab for Adenovirus PCR".

For swab and tissue, please specify the source. If not, the specimen type will be reported as "SWAB" or "TISSUE" in the final report.

Specimen Requirements

Preferred:
Specimen Type: Whole blood or bone marrow aspirate
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 3mL (at least 1mL for bone marrow aspirate)

Acceptable:
Submit only one of the following:
Specimen Type: Nasopharyngeal aspirate or Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)
Container/Tube: Sterile plain container
Specimen Volume: Entire collection

Specimen Type: Swab Sources: Nasal, throat, ocular (others please specify)

Container/Tube: Universal transport media (dry swab in plain container is acceptable too)
